Mojito Cocktail Recipes
One of the most refreshing cocktails is the Mojito. It is the kind of drink you would want while sitting on a beach of a tropical island. But it’s also the kind of drink that is welcomed at clubs and parties. The Mojito is the kind of drink you will like so much that you might want to drink only Mojitos all night long; beware, this drink has a powerful little punch to it that could sneak up on you, so be careful. The first thing you’ll notice when you take a sip of a Mojito is that it tastes really good and you don’t really taste the alcohol in it. It can make you too brave and before you know it you’ve had way too many Mojitos. So don’t let the refreshing taste fool you- this drink is potent because you keep wanting to drink more and often it doesn’t taste like it’s full of alcohol!
You could change a few of the ingredients, like using lemonade instead of club soda. You could also use vodka instead of club soda; this will give the drink a new taste. Since Vodka doesn’t have a taste of its own, the other ingredients won’t be over powered by it. However you alter the liquor in the drink, it’s the lime and the mint that is pushed into the shaker that makes the drink a very delicious drink. The vodka or club soda just adds to the texture of the drink. Creating a Mojito is actually pretty simple. You start out by putting 4 mint leaves into a cocktail shaker then squeeze the juice of one lime right over the leaves. Add a teaspoon of powdered sugar and then “muddle” or crush the mixture. You do this with a wooden muddle. This is very important to the proper Mojito, so find one if you don’t own one yet. The muddle releases the juices of the mint and combines with the lime and sugar. It seems that the proper muddling does not incorporate mashing, smashing, pounding or grinding. It is a very specific action. You twist the muddle and add a light pressure while doing it.
After you have muddled the mixture you add crushed ice to the shaker. Then you stir in 2 ounces of white rum along and 2 ounces of club soda. That mixture goes through a strainer. Then all you do is add a mint sprig. Wha-la! Your Mojito is finished. So, be sure to practice your muddle and you will always make the perfect Mojito.The Mojito’s birthplace was Cuba. For ages the Mojito has been one of the most popular mixed drinks. Its alias used to be a “Cuban Highball,” and it was known for how well its five ingredients went together: mint, rum, powdered sugar, lime and club soda.
